Individual Tutoring
Each student is a unique individual. We’re not your average franchised tutoring company where the ratio of students per teacher exceeds five to one. In other tutoring settings, much of the time is often spent working on standardized lessons and tests by themselves. We believe there’s a better way. At FVA tutoring follows a one-to-one apprenticeship model and the curriculum is truly customized for each individual; in other words, one-size-fits-one learning. No matter what the starting point, we have a firm belief that every individual can succeed at school, given the proper encouragement, motivation and tools. We believe that a tutor's most important job is to listen and observe one’s work habits and learning preferences, and then provide the student with strategies to work and learn more effectively. Our aim is to reach students as early as possible and teach them lifelong learning strategies and problem solving skills. This will begin a cycle of confidence, motivation, and academic success that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. When a student enters a tutoring relationship at FVA, an individualized Student Education Plan (SEP) will be constructed. We begin by administering and interpreting a FREE* grade-specific assessment test. The assessment results will be shared with both students and their parents so that mutual expectations for achievement can be developed and collaborative goal-setting exercises can be put in place for the student’s individualized learning plan. Assignments will be tailored to target a student’s zone of proximal development - meaning that we set the bar in the sweet spot, right above what a learner can do on his/her own, then we provide that proverbial “leg up” in problem solving guidance that he/she needs to clear the bar. Furthermore, we are dedicated to keeping your student on the path to success by carefully monitoring and tracking progress, all which will be transparently shared with students and parents. With a wealth of highly qualified NYS certified educators and professional experts FVA can provide tutoring in ELA, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, ASL, Speech, Spanish, Art, ELL, Social and Life Skills, and more are being added every day. Falls View Academy is in the process of becoming a New York State Education Department approved Supplemental Educational Services Provider. When approved, we will provide SES tutoring for grades K-12 with an individualized 1:1 ratio; tailoring content and curriculum to each student’s needs so that they may reach their fullest educational achievement.
